AEK: Sedimentation again in the second round

by

For another season the AEK suffered huge racing subsidence in the second round of the championship. In fact, this year’s slump was even bigger than last year for the “Union” and did not mitigate the situation even yesterday significant victory over Asteras Tripolis (2-1). But because the numbers reveal everything, let’s see how much AEK sealed things in the second round of the Super League both last season and the current one.

“Enoisi” was second this year in the first with a harvest of 27 points and a record of 8 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats (25-14) having a distance of 8 points from the champion Olympiakos after the first 13 games. In the second round, however, AEK fell to third place, finishing at -19 from the “red and whites” and at -7 from PAOK having a breathing distance now from Aris (+1) and Panathinaikos (+4). In the games between the 14th and 26th games, he collected only 19 points (8 less than in the first round), counting 6 wins, 1 draw and 6 losses and 17-14 goals. In fact, if we isolate the score of only the second round of this year’s championship, the “yellow-blacks” were only seventh, since not only Olympiakos (30), PAOK (31), Panathinaikos (22) and Aris (22) had a bigger harvest, but also Asteras Tripolis (21) and Panaitolikos (20).

AEK had a similar decline last season (2020/21). In the first round he was fourth, but only at -6 from Olympiakos, with a record of 8 wins, 3 draws and 2 defeats (24-13 goals). In the second round, however, in the second round it fell to -19 from the top, gaining just 13 points, with 6 wins, 3 draws and 4 losses (17-16 goals). Thus, he finished third, at -3 from Aris, while isolating the score in the second round, he was fifth, behind Olympiakos (-13), Panathinaikos (-6), Astera (-4) and Aris (-1).
