Solskjaer on Ronaldo: “His return to United was wrong, but we couldn’t let him go to City”

He described as wrong the decision they took in Manchester United for his return Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021, the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

In an interview he gave, the then coach of the team expressed the opinion that the return of the Portuguese star created a very serious problem in the locker room of the team, while making it clear that, to a large extent, Manchester United acquired him so as not to let him go to compatriots City.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best football players in 15 years! I was also his teammate. He has a long history with Manchester United and when he was about to leave Juventus, we couldn’t let him go to Manchester City. He would score more goals than Haaland is scoring now”he initially reported and went on to say:

“So I got in touch with him and we eventually agreed for him to come back, but in the end I think signing him was a mistake as it affected the dressing room of the team. Maybe some other players felt that they are less important after the arrival of a superstar like Ronaldo. He did well, he was our top scorer that year, but I lost my job a few weeks later!”.

THE Ronaldo returned to Manchester United for the 2021-22 season, scoring 24 goals in 38 appearances, but was released in November 2022 to then move to Saudi Arabia and Al Nasrhaving earlier fallen out with Eric Ten Haag.
