A promising career decided to end AJ Griffin order to devote himself to God and become a priest.
The 21-year-old forward, who was selected at number 16 in the 2022 draft, is son of former Bucks coach Adrian Griffin. He had a solid rookie season with the Hawks with 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1 assist in 19.5 minutes per game and 72 total appearances, but last year he played in just 20 games and 8.5 minutes per game. In June, he was traded to the Rockets, with whom he decided to end his partnership, receiving $250,000.
“I’m giving up basketball to follow Jesus. I know this may seem strange to many, but I want to tell you that I am excited to serve God with all my being. By leaving basketball I will be able to do it and become a priest so that I can devote myself to the Lord with all my heart“, he stated.
AJ Griffin on why he retired from basketball at the age of 21:
“I gave up basketball to follow Jesus.”
Griffin will pursue being a full time minister.
