England and Portugal took their dispute over Wolves’ young striker Matheus Mane to another… level, who was called up 24 hours apart by both national federations to the respective U-18 representative groups!
The 17-year-old centre-forward was born in Portugal but moved to England aged nine and earlier this year he joined Wolves from Rochdale. Last year he represented her Portugal at the children’s level (K-17), but this year he was called up by the English national coach, Liam Brumleyin a preparation camp of the K-18 group of the “three lions”.
Yesterday Thursday (3/10), o Bramley included the young forward in his call-ups ahead of a tournament in Marbella, Spain, and today (4/10) the Mane he was called up to the corresponding group of Portugal for another tournament, which will take place in the same period.
It is noted that the K-18 category is unofficialin which case both federations had the opportunity to call up the footballer, who, according to Wolves, has chosen the England national team. It is recalled that players with dual citizenship are allowed to change national team at age group level or even if they compete with the men’s national team in a friendly game, but they lose this privilege if they play in an official match with the “big” team.
