After just three games at the helm Asteras AKTORClaude Makelele will be the past from the technical leadership of the team and Argyris Giannikis will be the favorite for his replacement.
Speaking to Chris Wheatley of the London World, the veteran midfielder addressed the circumstances that led to this looming divorce, confirming a report by French website ‘Foot Mercato’.
Specifically, Makelele claimed that the management of Asteras AKTOR had promised him “full team control”however showed a tendency to interfere with his picks, culminating in young Darnell Billet, for whom he reported “They told me that he had to stay on the bench in the match against Kallithea”.
“I was promised full control of the team. It was my decision who to use and who not to use. The transfers were not done under my own responsibility. If you want to fire me because of the results, do it. This is football. But I won’t let anyone tell me who to put on and who not to.
In the match against Kallithea, I was told that a key player he had to stay on the bench. The player has a short contract and is the best in the team. I put him on for 20 minutes, he had two assists and we won. But they didn’t want him to play, because he hadn’t signed. But I put him in, because of the quality!”the Frenchman said in detail and continued:
“They were used to playing long balls and second balls, but I made them understand that whether you win, lose or draw, you have to learn to play football.
I’m a forward-looking coach. When I take responsibility for the players, I know what I can and cannot do. I love the job, but I can’t take it when people step in and tell me what I can or can’t do.”
