The issue of refereeing has plagued and occupied Greek football for a long time. The former international referees, Spyros Papadakos and Yannis Stavridiswere accommodated in his air bwinSPORT FM and on his show Kyriakou Thomaidis “Tuesday’s Appeal”.
“We didn’t set ourselves as observers, you can’t judge the one whose mistake you depend on”Spyros Papadakos initially said about the fact that Lanois defines himself as an observer in certain matches and added: “Our issue is not only the foreigners, but also what the Greek referees are doing. With this tactic and policy, we will never have Greek referees at the top level. If a Greek does not play derby, how will he go abroad to excel? What kind of mentality should an international referee play with… The referee himself must know when to leave, when to leave with his head held high.”
For Sidiropoulos, even if he should have retired: “In a very good period for him, Sidiropoulos should leave in order to remain in the public opinion that he was a worthy referee”. He then commented on Retsu’s phase in the derby, stating the opinion that it was a penalty.
As for him Yannis Stavridisa former FIFA referee, spoke about the head referee, Stéphane Lanois, saying that with the videos he releases to the public, he turns white into black.
“Mr. Lanois is trying to make white black from scratch. This affects the whole system and we cannot make good referees. We have in each match 1-2 contested phases, it should come out separately for each match. He chooses the phases where he will say that the referees worked correctly…”was his original comment. He added that… “There is no trust in the Greek referees from the fans. For me, it is right that the VAR dialogues are made public so that we can see how the Greek referee thinks”.
