Lingard explained why he was away from the pitch – Depression, hospital and family

When my contract ended, my grandmother got sick. She was an amazing woman — Pamela Lingard — and she and my grandfather raised me after, for long periods of my childhood, my mom struggled with depression.

During that summer, her condition became very difficult. He was in and out of hospital, and even though I was training hard and missing being at a club, I felt that God’s plan was to end my contract: “I’m not going to give you a team right now, you have to stay home and be with your family.”

So that’s what I did. I spent as much time as I could with them until November when my grandmother passed away. Then I could find a team.”
