Jovanovic: “Siopis works for the whole team”

by

Ivan Jovanovic praised the combativeness and behavior of Manolis Siopis and that his example is followed by other players of the national team, he believes that the last four days would have been amazing in terms of football if it were not for the sadness over the loss of George Baldock and that the players they gave him and the friends of the representative group beautiful moments.

In detail:

About Siopis and that at some point Greece retreated: “Because you mentioned Siopis, I will say yes about him. There are players who are seen and who make the game beautiful and those who work for everyone. When Siopis today could get all the headers in the first part, for the others he doesn’t need a coach.

His style of play forces others to follow him. This is the greatness of Siopis. He is a special case and it is not easy to take care of him. He has a huge heart and gives it to everything he does.

We had a lot to manage both with the people and with honoring the late George.”

On whether it was the most difficult week for him and the National Team: “If I didn’t think I could do it, I wouldn’t have made such a choice. If I didn’t think I could do something with this generation, I wouldn’t do it. I know how we can do it. If I trained them every day, I would be the happiest person.

If we look at the football part, these four days might have been one of the most beautiful if it wasn’t for the issue with George. The players were not helped by this issue. Maybe inside they felt the obligation. These children gave us beautiful moments in a difficult week”.

Greece’s gameplay and phases: “The way we want it can help us tomorrow if we want to change our formation. Because we are talking about the best quality guys that Greece has. They are guys who discuss with us how to play. It was obvious how in all four games, when things went wrong, they could fix it.

I am satisfied with how our players perceive things and, believe me, I can be very strict with them in the dressing room when things do not go as we have agreed. If we want to do something, we have to go beyond it.”

National team fans: “The people who came today also came because of the performance in England and saw what they value in a Greek player. I believe that if it was a bigger stadium there would be more people. In the next match against England, OAKA may be small. The crowd has wanted the connection with the National Team. It was incredible and moving how the people were”.
