Fyssas to bwinSPORT FM 94.6: “Jovanovic found a ready-made national team”

by

The show “Tuesday’s Appeal” was hosted by Takis Fyssas. The veteran back and “legend” of the National team was hosted on News Bulletin 247 and spoke with Kyriakos Thomaidis about the events of the previous week.

The former sports director of the “blue and white” referred to the tragic event of his death George Baldock and spoke in the best terms about the late quarterback and his character.

At the same time, she commented on her great victories Nationalemphasized that it is a group that it’s been building the right way for yearswhile he did not fail to talk about his next game Nations Leagueopposite to England in November.

What he said in detail:

For George Baldock: “George’s absence will always be felt. This kid came two years ago to play with the national crest, having grown up in England. He had a great mood and appetite, the rest of the team embraced him. He showed great receptivity to learn our way of life, the everyday life of Greek players. He became one of us, he always gave his full passion, hence Bakaseta’s speech. He is an example to follow.

I will tell you an example. In the national team we had a group that, as sports director, I put everything in Greek, like for example the schedule. At one point I said to him “I forgot you, I have to put them in English” and he replied “no you don’t need to, I will translate them myself, I have to learn”. He was a great kid, very receptive, never asked for favors.”

On how the tragic event affected the National team: “The first thought that occurs to a footballer after such an event is that they have no desire to play football. I had a similar event with the death of my team-mate (Miklos Feher) when I was at Benfica, I thought I would never play football again that year, but in the end we came second in the league and won the Cup. The lads obviously sat down as a group and decided how they were going to move for the England game and it came out very human.”

For Jovanovic: “I can’t say that a man is lucky when he has four wins, but I can’t say that he made the team either. Mr. Jovanovic came to a team that was ready. Four years working properly, I can tell you how Bakasetas, Mavropanos, Rota and other guys developed. This team was built, but now it is in the hands of an excellent coach and needs balance. We don’t need to deify anyone, but we can’t help but accept that they’ve done their job. This team has been developing over the years and now it’s on the last step.”

For the next match against England: “We are not inferior to the English in anything. Sure they have some great footballers from huge teams, but we play football not tennis. I am sure that our players will deal with it properly. Carsley can’t cope with the size of the England national team, he says so himself. It will be a different game, we mustn’t get carried away, it will be much more difficult than the Wembley match because there will be pressure.”
