Barcelona “braked” Red Star with Pander as the protagonist!

She triumphed in extending her derbara with Red Star and celebrated its third consecutive victory in this year’s Euroleague Barcelona!

In a game that was lopsided throughout and went into overtime after an 84-84 regular-time tie, the Catalans finally prevailed in the details and celebrated the win with 98-94having as their absolute protagonist Kevin Panderwho finished the game with 26 points (6/7 2-pointers, 4/6 3-pointers, 3 assists and 4 steals)!

Thus, the “Blaugrana” improved their record to 3-1making it 2/2 in the first “devil’s week” of the season, after their victory over Monaco, while Red Star are now 3-1, after their first defeat in this year’s competition.

Apart from Pander, a very good performance for Barcelona was also made by Have fun (19p, 5 rib), and Parker (13p), while the home team’s efforts were not enough Dos Santos (23p) and Kalinic (19p).

The match:



The match started with Pander coming out hot on the court, hitting 6 personal points early on and putting Barcelona 11-5 ahead, before McIntyre, Boloboi and Kalinic provided attacking solutions for Asteras, putting them in front for the first time in the match (16-15). Barcelona took the lead again (19-21) with Vesely’s shots, while the guests closed the first period with the smallest lead (26-25).

Derby in the second period of the match, with neither team able to escape the score, until Giedraitis, Mitrovic and Dos Santos came, to put Sphairopoulos’ team at 39-33. But Barcelona found a way to tie it again, at 44-44 on Anderson’s first basket, before McIntyre made it 47-44 in the first half with a buzzer-beater 3-pointer.

The image of the match did not change even with the return of the two teams from the locker room. Barcelona took a 50-47 lead thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers by Laprovitola and Parker, while Satoranski and Vesely made it 49-54, and then the Red Stars went on a 10-0 run to take a 59-54 lead and finally close out the third period with a small lead of three points (66-63).

The derby continued in the fourth period, with Red Star going without a basket for two minutes, allowing Barcelona to go ahead with 67-66, while neither team managed to create a difference in their favor, until the “final straight”. Pander’s big 3-pointer put the visitors ahead 84-82 with 9 minutes to go, while Dos Santos tied the score to send the game into overtime after Pander missed a buzzer-beater 3-pointer.

In the extra five minutes, Pader continued to… run the Serbs with his three-pointers, making it 86-87, while Parker kept Barcelona in front (88-90), before Dos Santos responded with a foul basket and two more shots, for 93-90. Laprovitola tied it with a three-pointer, but Pander hit another long shot for 93-96, made a crucial block to tie the score at 94-96, and scored the final points of the thrilling match, setting up a final 94- 98!
