by

Finikas Syros shocked Panathinaikos again, in the knockout quarterfinal of the Cup.

The Syrians took advantage of the absence of people from the prison of St. Thomas due to punishment and 3-1 sets were imposed, checking the ticket for the Final-4 of the Cup Men’s volleyball.

The “greens” met her second defeat this year by Finikas in the three games they have played (two in the league and one in the Cup) and, in fact, with a reversal, after they had managed to lead.

Specifically, the team of Dimitris Andreopoulos maintained a slight lead in the first set and with a series of four points after 21-23 made the 1-0 set (25-23).

From there and beyond, the Syrians rose sharply and brought the match to a halt. In the second set, they took an early lead of four points (5-9), with the greens gnawing the difference (11-12), without being able to find answers, as Finikas kept control until the final for the 1-1 set with 25-18.

In the third set, Panathinaikos kept the lead until 17-16, with Finikas running a series of four points (17-20) and paving the way for 2-1 set with 25-22.

The fourth set turned into a thriller, with Finikas as the winner. Andreopoulos’s team was ahead until 15-13, but again with a series of four points, Syros reached 15-17. With continuous changes in the score, both teams reached 21-21, with Finikas running a new series and ending the game with 25-21.

The sets: 25-23, 18-25, 22-25, 21-25
