Not with him Ergin Atamanbut with him Christos Serelis Panathinaikos will line up at the helm on Thursday, November 21 in Kaunas against Zalgiris.

The Turkish coach has been on leave from the “greens” for a month to be on the bench for his national team’s games against Hungary on November 22 in Istanbul and away three days later (25/11) for their qualifiers Eurobasket.

Indeed, Ataman expressed his gratitude to him through social media Dimitris Giannakopoulosemphasizing that he appreciates her understanding that the strong man of the “greens” showed him and that his move contributes significantly to the cooperation and friendship between the two countries in the competitive context.

In detail what he wrote:

“I would like to thank the president of Panathinaikoli, Mr. Dimitris Giannakopoulos, for his understanding and the special permission he gave me to coach the Turkish national team in the game against Hungary, which coincides with our EuroLeague game against Zalgris Kaunas . His decision allows me to serve the interests of both our club and my national team. At the same time, this move contributes significantly to the cooperation and friendship between the two countries in the sporting context.

The game against Zalgiris is of course very important. However, our national team also has a crucial game for the EuroBasket qualifiers. I am grateful to Mr. Giannakopoulos for the understanding he showed me.

Although I will not be able to be at the helm of Panathinaikos, I am optimistic that my team and my players will do their best against Zalgris. I believe that my assistant, Christos Serelis, will fulfill his duties properly. I have no doubt that the team will show their competitive spirit, as always.”
