Greek table tennis has a presence in German Feeders every year and will be represented again this year at the World Table Tennis Feeder II in Dusseldorf with Yiannis Sgouropoulos and Dimitra-Thomaida Tsekouras in the singles event.
Our champion will start on Tuesday, competing in the second and decisive women’s qualifying round. Sgouropoulos is directly on the board of “64” and on Wednesday he will immediately find a high obstacle in front of him against Poland’s Maciej Kubik.
Close to 100 are the entries for men. The top 40 in the tournament seeding go directly to the first round and the Eleusinian ace is number 30. All the remaining athletes are in the qualifying process, which will make the qualifiers through a total of three rounds.
The draw for the main draw took place on Monday. Sgouropoulos will not expect an opponent from the qualifying process, as he “fell” with Kubik, who is number 17 in the German Feeder and also directly in the first round. The match takes place on Wednesday, the time is not yet known.
The women’s singles qualifying matches will also be held on the first two days. Cekura (number 14 at this stage) has a bye in the first round and will then challenge for qualification against Spain’s Yana Riera. The match was set for Tuesday at 16:00.
A total of 21 gymnasts are participating in the qualifiers and eight will continue on the “64” board.
