Netflix broke audience records with the fight between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, broadcast live last Saturday (16).
According to the streaming platform, the fight was the most broadcast sporting event in history, with a peak of 65 million simultaneous broadcasts, 38 million of which in the USA.
According to TVision, 56% of all television audiences in the US between midnight and 1am (local time) went to the fight.
The match, won by Jake Paul, drew an estimated average minute audience of 108 million live viewers globally from start to finish, and continued to drive viewership over the weekend with an estimated average of 125 million.
The fight between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano, which took place on the same night, had an estimated average of 74 million live viewers globally and became the most watched women’s sporting event in US history.
The mega-event was Netflix’s most watched title during the week, with 46.6 million views (total hours watched per runtime) until Sunday night (17).
The fight, produced by Most Valuable Promotions and EverWonder, was also number 1 on the streaming platform in 78 countries, including Brazil, Argentina, Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the USA .
