After the two consecutive tournaments in January in Dusseldorf, the series of Feeders of the World Table Tennis Federation returns to Doha and will also have a Greek presence.
In fact, 22-year-old Giannis Sgouropoulos, 23-year-old George Stamatouros and 18-year-old Malamatenia Papadimitriou will compete with young athletes.
The tournament runs from March 13 to 17. The Feeder gives opportunities for strong tests mainly to athletes who are not in the top positions of the world ranking, as well as to developing young people and includes all the individual competitions. On March 13th and 14th, the qualifiers will take place and from the 15th to the 17th the main boards, everywhere with the knockout system.
The four-time European champion of the youth at a young age, Sgouropoulos, avoids the qualifying process based on his position in seeding. On the board of “64” he is waiting for an opponent after the completion of the qualifying rounds.
Stamatouros faces tomorrow, Sunday, the Turk Tugay Yilmaz in the 1st qualifying round (s.s. of “64”).
In the women’s singles, the qualifying scoreboard is “32”. Papadimitriou has a bye in the 1st round and in the 16th team will claim the qualification with an opponent either the Japanese Miva Harimoto or the Chinese Kin Yushuan.
In the men’s doubles and in the qualifying round of the “16”, Sgouropoulos and Stamatouros meet tomorrow, Sunday, the Spaniards Joan Masip / Carlos Campalero.
In the double mixed, Stamatouros / Papadimitriou were drawn in the 1st qualifying round with Jane Pagias / Saini Souhana from India. They play on Sunday morning and if they win they will face the number 1 favorite of the qualifiers, Christian Pleteas / Antina Diaconou from Romania.
