National basketball teams in “Mikra 4”

A very important piece of news came out on the sidelines of the National Basketball team’s presence in Thessaloniki for the match against Great Britain. Signed Memorandum of Cooperationbetween the Hellenic Basketball Federation through its president Vangelis Lioliou and the administration of EAK Thessaloniki also through president Kostas Violitzis, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Sports, Yannis Vroutsis, for the utilization of the new indoor gym “Mikra 4”, for the benefit of the National basketball teams.

Mr. Brutsis is in Thessaloniki, where he will attend the afternoon match of our men’s national team against England, as part of the EuroBasket 2025 qualifying phase.We are pleased to announce the utilization of “Mikra 4” for the needs of the National basketball teams. The sport that has given us huge moments at the national and inter-club level, has brought people to the streets in great joy, has given model athletes to our children, has given us life lessons, deserves the best treatment from the State, not only for the historic offer, but also for the successes we will see in the future. Today we are here in Thessaloniki for the signing of the utilization of the closed gym “Mikra 4” under completion by the EEC. The signing of the Program Contract with the Region of Central Macedonia for the specific project, which will be implemented with co-financing with the Ministry of Sports and will reach 1.2 million, is expected soon. euros (500 thousand and 700 thousand euros, respectively). The new indoor gym “Mikra 4” will be an emblematic sports facility for Thessaloniki and the whole of northern Greece and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026. For my part, I would like to thank, for the partnership, the Region of Thessaloniki and the management of EAK Thessaloniki, the president Kostas Violitzis, the Board of Directors and the employees. The completion of “Mikra 4” is also thanks to the -for the first time- increased resources (+48.87%, i.e. 1,510 million euros more per year) of the EAKTH from the Ministry of Sports” emphasized the Deputy Minister of Sports.

For his part, the president of the EEC, Vangelis Liolios stated in this regard: “It is a great joy, every time basketball finds its own place of action, development, hospitality. This joy becomes even greater in the case of “Mikra 4” since we are now talking about a place in the city, which traditionally had a special role in the foundation of the sport in our country, and later in the rapid rise of its popularity and love from the sports fans public. Thessaloniki will have a “home of basketball”, the National teams will have their own roof and this event creates for us beyond anticipation and a challenge for the continuous exploitation of this development for the benefit and progress of our sport in the city but and overall in Northern Greece.
