Simeoforidis in the “Trial” for the murder of Lyggeridis: “Even relegation of the team if a connection with PAE is proven”

The Ethics Committee of the EPO and the Marinaki-Karipidis dispute, entered the microscope of the legal sports law, Lakis Simaoforidis, who spoke to the “Trial of SKAI” and about the penalties that can be applied in the case of the murder of Giorgos Lyggeridis.

“Is the problem with this particular gentleman or with Greek football, which was forced to be under commissions and have such commissioners?” he initially wondered about the video showing former EPO super advisor Petr Fusek drunk.

“Presidents come and go, the issue is how well structured Greek football is, so that we are not forced to come to manage our football. It’s not their fault, it’s our fault. These examples should turn some of them onhe added.

He then referred to the role that the EPO Ethics Committee can play in the Marinaki-Karipidis dispute:

“Let’s get something straight. The Ethics Committee takes cases to protect the reputation and image of football. EPO, according to its statute, has the right to protect it by any appropriate measure.

He may bring the matter to the Ethics Committee to determine if there are disciplinary issues. It is important to say, that in the cases where the image of football is affected, it is possible if various rules and previous decisions of FIFA and CAS are applied, in order to investigate the truth.

It is obvious that it is a very serious issue concerning two major teams and factors in Greek football. As long as the legal background exists, the EPO or even a group or even a natural person can intervene.

This is something reasonable. The field of football has particularities, because there is no negligence. That is, committing an offense through negligence. It is part of secondary law. In the primary are the rules that we all read, in the secondary the referees are given the opportunity to take into account other things and to go beyond what applies to do justice, to protect this product called football.

Regarding the Lyggeridis case, he noted:

“The provisions of the sports law that include the issue of sports violence are known to everyone. Also, the strictness of the provisions is known. There are penalties for natural persons, but also for the PAEs themselves, when issues of violent behavior arise. The penalties are many and long, they can even lead to relegation if it is proven that there is a connection between the PAEs. Also, there is the provision of disciplinary proceedings against people who are not members of boards of directors, but exercise management. We had gone through it, because we had factors that appeared in groups, drowned PAE, and disappeared.”

He concluded by saying, on the occasion of the illegal betting ring:

“The team president came into the dressing room and directly said why he owed today the match must be tied at half time and end 2-0. That’s the only way you’ll get paid”
