Strong competition for Greece for EuroBasket 2029: Eight nominations!

Greece has strong competition in its attempt to take over Eurobasket 2029. As announced by FIBA, in addition to the Greek candidacy, there are eight others that are vying to host a group and the final phase of the competition.

Apart from Greece, therefore, EuroBasket 2029 is claimed Germany, Spain, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and the Netherlands.

Of them only Estonia and the Netherlands they have not hosted EuroBasket before, while Finland co-hosted the previous event in 2022.

H Greece has hosted EuroBasket twice in the past, the 1987 when he won the gold medal, but also the 1995when he took fourth place. The last very big basketball event it hosted was the 1998 World Cup, when it finished fourth, while of course there was also the Olympic basketball tournament in 2004, as part of the Athens Olympic Games.

Eurobasket since 2015 has been held in four different countriesone of which also hosts the final phase. In 2025, the games will take place in Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, with the latter hosting the final phase in Riga.

FIBA’s decision is expected in June or July, after examining the files.
