Spyros Kapralos remains a member of the IOC. The president of the EOE was informed of his decision today of the ILO Executive Council to recommend the renewal of his term of office as a member of the Synod that will take place in our country on March 18 to 21 and which – as he mentions – and the relevant announcement of the EOE will be made acceptable.
The EOE announcement in detail:
“The renewal of the term of office of IOC President Spyros Kapralos as a member of the International Olympic Committee in Greece was decided by the IOC Executive Council at its last meeting in Lausanne.
The proposal to extend the term of Mr. Kapralou will be put to a vote at the 144th Session of the International Olympic Committee that will take place in Greece, on March 18-21, 2025 and is expected to be upvoted by all members.
The tenure of Mr. Kapralou’s term would end at the end of 2025, but the IOC Executive Council, taking into account his contribution to the Olympic and global sports movement as well as his key interventions in important matters concerning both the Olympic Committees and the athletes, proposes the renewal of his term from 1 January 2026 to the end of 2029.
Mr. Kapralos, who has been an independent member of the IOC since 2019, said:
“I am really happy about the decision of the Executive Council to propose the extension of my term as a member of the International Olympic Committee. It is a reward for the efforts I have made to spread the Olympic values ​​and develop the Olympic movement worldwide.
At the same time, this honor reflects on Greek sports and our athletes, as our country will continue to have a strong voice and power in the decision-making centers of the Olympic family. The renewal of my term of office arms me with even greater strength to continue working for the benefit of Greek sportsmen and women.”
