The Minister of National Economy and Finance Kostis Hatzidakis met with the Secretary General of the OECD Mathias Kormanin the context of the presentation of the OECD Report on Greece, held with the participation of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Palace.

During the meeting the minister congratulated Mr. Korman for his contribution to the promotion of the OECD’s priorities and referred to the close cooperation that has developed between the Organization and the Greek government.

Referring to the content of the OECD report on our country, Mr. Hatzidakis commented that this records the strong recovery of the Greek economy and the qualitative upgrading of its production capabilities, as reflected in the increase in exports and investments.

The minister particularly focused on the issue of dealing with tax evasion, pointing out that the benefit from the measures implemented in the last 15 months amount to 1.8 billion. euro. Mr. Hatzidakis also expressed the unbreakable commitment of the Greek Government on its way fiscal seriousness and pro-development reforms, while he expressed the belief that Greece will continue to respond successfully to the significant challenges facing the international economy.

Finally, Mr. Hatzidakis thanked the Secretary General of the OECD for the useful recommendations policy included in the report, particularly on the issues of business development, innovation and skills to which the thematic chapter of the report is dedicated.

On his part, Mr. Corman expressed his satisfaction with the “very significant progress which has Greece has achieved in recent years” pointing out that the “country is moving in the right direction”.

He also stated that it is important “to continue these efforts to achieve even greater and sustainable improvements in income and living standards, including by further strengthening public finances, stimulating productivity and innovation, promoting employment and skills development, and accelerating the climate change transition’.
