Lille and Atlético Madrid are going hand-in-hand towards qualifying for the knockouts of the Champions League.
The French found themselves in a dark spot against the formidable Sturm Graz, but beat them 3-2 to take 13 points, one more than the promoted Rojiblancos who beat Slovan Bratislava 3-1.
In fact, these three points bring the two teams on course for the top eight, which they will claim in the last turns of the League Phase.
So, in France, the match was excellent and with… a lot of emotions. The home side came in better, in control and after half an hour stepped on the gas to take the lead in the 37th minute with Alexandro feeding Sahraoui to make it 1-0. With Lille finding a second goal with Bakker at 45’+2′, setting fire to the “Stade Pierre Morois”. However, their joy lasted for a while, since in the last phase of the half Kitesvili reduced the score (2-1) and gave interest again.
As if that wasn’t enough, Biereth in the 47th minute froze the French and gave the signal for intense celebrations by the Austrians. However, the visitors could not keep the ball and their opponents away from their goal, as a result of which Haraldsson in the 81st minute wrote the 3-2 that was to remain until the final.
At the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid continued their upward trend, this time beating Slovan Bratislava 3-1.
Alvarez scored in the 16th minute and gave the Rojiblancos the lead, with Griezmann scoring another game to make it 2-0 in the 42nd minute. Strelets’ 51st minute penalty reduced it for the visitors who celebrated with all their heart, but six minutes later Griezmann struck again to put the icing on the cake.
