Bodyboard surfer Teresa Sukienik, 51, reported alleged threats suffered on February 22, while surfing at Silveira beach, Santa Catarina, where she has lived for 10 years.
Fellipe Ximenes, a professional athlete who has already participated in stages of the access division of the world elite, would have ‘tailed’ Teresa in two waves and did not like it when a friend of the surfer would have asked to ‘release waves to women’.
According to the victim and a witness, André Carvalho, 39, who was filming Teresa’s training and recording the moment that would have motivated the argument, Fellipe was excited and screaming. Ximenes would also have threatened André in the parking lot of the place.
‘If you are a woman, you are quiet now’
“It was a day with small seas, good waves, few people in the water, it had everything to be a pleasant day of surfing. I was with a friend and a friend who was filming our training in the sand. Everything was going well. When Fellipe arrives screaming”, says Teresa.
“He catches a wave from me, I don’t say anything. He catches the second wave of mine I don’t say anything either. I go to the side. Except that my friend didn’t know who he was, and she says something like: “release some waves there”, she said politely. Then he started screaming, infuriated and saying: “you’re the one to blame, you’re the one who told her. I’m a professional surfer, don’t talk to me”.
According to Teresa, the argument got worse in the sand.
“He stayed in the sand, came at me and almost hit me. He would put his finger in my face and say: “if you are a woman, you keep quiet now, if it harms me then you will see what is good”, he shouted, says the surfer.
“Their friends have arrived. I was already crying. I believe it wasn’t for his friends to have taken it, he might well have gone on top of me. I did nothing.”
“I was afraid, so I thought it best to go to the police station. At the time it was very traumatic, I started crying”, says Sukienik.
“After that he still called me several times, so I returned to the police station, because I live alone and I don’t want to feel threatened. I have calls from him on my cell phone, but I haven’t answered any of them. I’ll face this one, because nowadays, doing what he did to me is not possible; I am traumatized so far.”
‘I don’t know if they stick velcro’
According to André Carvalho, a witness, Ximenes’ statements demonstrate sexism.
“We were training in front of her house, I’m an instructor and at the time of the confusion I was filming. This boy entered the water and in a short time he butted Teresa to a right, in a very bizarre way. Then he tailed her to the left, in the same way, in a rough way”, says André.
“After the episodes where Fellipe gets into Teresa’s waves, I noticed that her friend approaches him and says something. Then they gesture a lot and I could see Fellipe slapping his hand in the water. Then I saw that things had heated up”, says André.
“As I was leaving he approached me again. I was in the car and he clearly threatened me.”
“There is no image of me that will harm me, otherwise the animal will get it”, he would say. I replied that I was just doing my job and that I would pass the images on to Teresa”, says André.
“He would say: this one (Teresa) is always here. They come here to surf these women (sic), I don’t know if they stick velcro or not”.
“Then he asked if I had a wife. I said yes with the head. Then he asked: “Does your wife go out on the street getting into trouble with a man?” I shook my head no. Then he said: “my wife doesn’t go out on the street getting into trouble with a man. These women (sic) want media, they want to appear.”
“I remember saying: man, you’re big, you talk loud, they felt cornered, you were screaming. And he said he wouldn’t hit them, but if he needed to, he’d call his wife,” recalls Carvalho.
“He even said: I wasn’t going to knock, if I have to knock I’ll call my wife, and my wife will beat them”.
André says that Ximenes’ speeches were engraved in his memories. “In addition to the localism, I felt there was a gender issue, the fact that they were women made him angry, in my view.”
The blog tried to contact Fellipe for two days. However, he did not answer calls or respond to messages. However, Ximenes’ lawyer, Ronner Saad, made contact.
“We are going to speak out about the injuries and defamation that Felipe is suffering. Any matter that does not have its proper justification will be subject to the filing of actions that hold the authors responsible”, said Saad.
So, finally, the blog received the statement, issued through the lawyer, which will be published in full at the end of the article.
Dedication to bodyboarding and female empowerment
According to the victim, Teresa, since she decided to share on the networks, the aggression she has suffered has received numerous messages of support, including from people who say they have been victims of threats and intimidation by the same surfer.
“My reputation is excellent, the only issue I’ve ever had in all these years at sea was with a friend of his. People are supporting me. I’m in the sea, also wanting to surf as equals, and they can’t stand that”.
Teresa, is a civil servant at the IRS and divides her time between work and the waves. In addition to her career, she heads a project that empowers women through sport. “In three years of the project, we have already started more than 50 women”, she says.
“She (Teresa) has been bodyboarding for over thirty years, has numerous surfing trips, is a competitor, one of the best master athletes in Brazil. She doesn’t live off bodyboarding, but for bodyboarding. In addition to being an icon in Santa Catarina, super respected, she has an incredible project that empowers women through sport. Within the modality and in the south of Brazil, it has a very large representation in our universe”, says André.

Fellipe Ximenes, hereby, elucidates the accusations that were imputed to him this Friday, March 11th and informs that all the accusations made do not match reality.
It is noteworthy that the surfer, as well as his entire team, do not condone any type of violence or discrimination, whether in sport or outside of it, so that the accusations made are directed to a person and an upstanding professional, father of the family and who has always treated his wife and all women, in life and in sport, with great respect.
It is also worth mentioning that Fellipe is a professional surfer respected throughout the country and even abroad, who earns his living from his family through surfing and has been part of the Garopaba Surf Association – SC for years and has always was a great supporter of local surfers and female Surfing, which is why he always treated all his colleagues in the profession with great respect and admiration, which can be reaffirmed through the podcast in which Fellipe participated, an occasion in which he praises the female presence in Surfing. Brazilian.
The attempt to defame the great respectful professional that Fellipe is and has always been, is based solely and exclusively on interference in a wave, which does not deserve to prosper, since, in the first place, it was not on purpose, because the athlete he was training at Praia do Silveira for a professional championship that he would compete in the next few days and, at no time did he notice the presence of surfer Teresa, not even in the remotest hypothesis, any persecution directed at another professional. Let’s see that trying to criminalize interference in a wave would be the same as holding a football player responsible for stealing the ball, since these are situations intrinsically inherent to the practice of sports, a situation that does not give rise to any reason to be defamed and insulted, a fact that occurred, according to the screenshots of the social network Instagram.
On the occasion, what actually happened was that Fellipe, on February 22, was insulted and threatened by surfer Teresa, at which time she, accompanied by a friend, uttered curses such as “asshole”, “boring” and “bad manners”. ” and stated that he would post Fellipe’s image on social media and he “would see who he messed with”, all because of an unpretentious and naive interference in the wave that the surfer would be, which is why, almost 20 days later, Teresa posted images of the athlete, linking him to slanderous information and harming him professionally.
Finally, it is informed that all injuries and defamation that are occurring on behalf of the professional Fellipe Ximenes will be duly investigated in the civil and criminal spheres, based on articles 186 of the Civil Code, 139 and 140 of the Penal Code and article 5. , item X, of the Federal Constitution.
