He gave an interview on his podcast Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright the Daniele De Rossi and referred at length to his years as a footballer Rome.
The legend of the “jalorossi” noted that staying at Roma was a bad footballing choicebut he did not regret it and then emphasized that he remained with the Romans because of the love that the world has for the club.
Everything he said in detail:
“Everyone here in Rome says they want to play for Roma and sometimes it happens. When you are in Rome you have to choose, sometimes you are lucky and you can choose to go somewhere better or stay here. I made that decision and it was a bad football decision but ok I don’t regret it. I signed for Roma when I was 12. I never played, I was on the bench for the first 3-4 years. I was a completely different footballer. I was aggressive. Very light, a thin guy, technically good but not strong”the team’s former Capitano initially reported and continued:
“It’s something that starts with people’s love for the team. It’s not just me, Totti or Giannini. There are many of us. Some of them are not good enough to stay, sometimes they go somewhere on loan, they follow other paths, but it is our dream. Growing up as a Roma child is your dream. Football is very important to us in Italy, especially in Rome. And so there is pressure, even if we know we are not at Real Madrid, we are not winning.
The love, the faith, the effort you put into the pitch, even when you’re not from Rome. They want you to win. We went 10-12 years without winning, but we were close to first place. Nine times I was second in the championship. It’s crazy. Against teams that were building with 200 million more than us. In seasons like this you never win a title, but you win a lot of games and that’s why people are happy with it.”
