A few days before the end of the year in which he was actively involved in football with the purchase of the majority package of AEK, Marios Iliopoulos gave an interview to APE-MPE. In this, among others, he wished for the new year “conquests mainly for his team”, as he said.

Q: President, you were awarded for the great sponsorship in amateur football. How important is it to invest in the next generation?
“I was honored to be awarded for sponsoring amateur football, which is the precursor to professional football, it’s the beginning. It is important for all of us to display such acts. Greek football, while in theory it is going well and of course there are discriminations, suffers internally. If there are no cuts and new things, the road is not very far.”
Q: At the same time, you won an award for fair play of the year. What does fair play mean to you?
“They also gave me the opportunity to award the volleyball player (including the Panathinaikos player, Ari Chandrino) for fair play, which for me is the central idea for Greek football. Without good competition, Greek football cannot have the bright pages that it can have in the event that it takes advantage of it. Something that happened correspondingly in Greek basketball, where brilliant stories were written and the new kids were thinking of entering this process. Basketball, indeed, has reached a level that everyone is proud of.”
Q: In the short time you have been in charge of AEK, what does sport mean to you?
“For me the most important thing is sports and hobbies that are an integral part of youth and young children, without it they cannot dream and achieve their goals. It is very important and has not been given enough importance, even by the families themselves. That is why things must come to a different footing. Sports, hobbies and selfless love. I receive selfless love and that gives me energy, passion and strength.”
Q: What do you want to wish for the new year?
“For the new year I will say seven wishes: Strength, health, love, luck, passion, humor and conquests, mainly for my team.”
