Yannis Michailidis made his assessment for 2024 speaking to NOVA. The central defender of PAOK spoke about the death of his father and the difficulties he has gone through in general, while he mentioned the upcoming match with Atromitos and also the return of Tsingaras to Toumba.
On the taste of 2024: “2024 leaves me with a bittersweet taste. As you know I lost my dad during the year and we won the championship in May. From then on, life goes on, let’s move on. We leave everything behind and focus on Sunday’s match. Let’s get the victory and go on our holidays happy.”
On the difficult and demanding week with the three strong matches, and what thoughts it leaves him: “We had a difficult schedule and I think that in most of the games we were in good shape and got results, if you exclude the last match against AEK, where we were not good and we lost, but nothing is over, only the first half. From there, we look to the next game with Atromitos. What’s done is done and we’re looking forward.”
On what the team needs to do to get Toumba the efficiency he has away from home: “The numbers say it all, when you put a lot out there and not in Toumba, it means something. We need to work more on the issue of mentality. We have to work on it, we are already working on it, and I believe we will turn it around.”
About his power and where he gets it from: “From the people I have by my side every day. I’ve been through a lot but I’m strong. I boost myself so to speak, but my family is everything and it gives me strength.”
About Atromitos and the impressions it leaves on him: “It is a difficult game. Every year the games against Atromitos are difficult. As for his coach, we know him well. Mr. Garcia is an excellent person and coach, I have experienced him both in the academies and in the first team of PAOK. I wish him the best.
We definitely have to work on the weaknesses of the opponent, which we analyzed in the time we had during the week, after the consecutive games. From there, let’s be the ones we have to be, dominate the field, as we do in most games, and get the three points.”
On whether he is psychologically ready to welcome Haris Tsingaras as an opponent: “Sure this duel will be nice.”
Finally, he sent his own wishes for the holidays and the new year, saying: “Health and Merry Christmas to all the world. The most important thing is health. Let’s be happy, smile every day and live each day individually.”
