The emotions that sport offers you cannot be experienced in anything you do in your life. So intense, so big and so easy to change from sorrow and sadness, to joy and… glory! From a simple athlete, you can… easily turn into a hero of an island!
Easy, of course, in common parlance means to get something without much effort. In the language of the athlete, on the other hand, it means countless hours of training, sweat, pain, sadness, fighting with yourself and in the end you raise your head and see that all that you were deprived of was worth it!
Nikos Karavanos is an athlete, who started his training in… exotic Rethymnon. He stayed focused, worked hard and managed to become the champion of Greece. If for an athlete things are difficult once, for the Cretan champion it was even more difficult. The distance deprived him of the possibility to do hard training every day with athletes of his level.
This was seen, however, in the first matches as well. In the first international tournaments, the results he desired did not come. At that point Caravanos showed exactly what he wants to do with his life. With even harder training he wrote his own History.
He won the silver medal at the U17 European Championship and made an entire island proud! He became the first Rethymnon champion to win a medal in a European championship, being raised in Crete, without leaving the island! He became the person who showed that when you have appetite, mood and talent, you can achieve anything!
The moments that followed were unforgettable. Mayor, district, friends, even the teachers of the school welcomed Nikos Karavanos as a hero, with honors and his popularity skyrocketed, as well as the sport of Wrestling.
Of course, the successes did not stop there, as he took 5th place in the world at the U20 World Championship in Spain and he is only 17 years old!
As the new… Minos, king of Crete, Nikos Karavanos continued to work much harder. 2025 now awaits him with very great difficulties and he aims to continue the effort towards the top!
His dreams, after all, and his talent don’t stop here, it’s just that in 2024 everyone will remember that it was the year he… started the successes!
