The five teams competed in 10 duels on Saturday with the characteristic feature of the intense cold and alternating intensity and direction of north wind. The results of the first day showed the order in which the crews competed the next day.
On Sunday after 12.00 in the morning and after initially apnea prevailed, the crews found themselves in the waters of Mikrolimanos with clearly less cold but even harsher and fought with each other with south, south-west winds in another series of 9 games, from which the winner emerged the Rebuild Contractions team with the captain of the top sailor in the LASER category (ILCA) and now coach Vangelis Heimonas. In the final, the team of Vangelis Heimonas met the team of Lucas of George Panagiotidis and it took only three matches to win the first place (3-0). The third winner was the WILD HORSE team led by George Tsoulfas.
All duels of the 3rd Athens Match Challenge took place with two identical Platu 25 boats, in which the crews alternate per duel, to ensure that the victory is due only to the abilities of the crews and not to possible equipment differences. The duels were all on an ortho-stern route lasting about 15 minutes and the match was refereed from very close to the sea by Marios Zisimatos (IJ) and Alina Stratiou (NJ).
The race ended with the awarding of prizes to the winners at the neoclassical building of POIATH in Mikrolimano, where participants enjoyed, among other dishes, the award-winning NISOS beer, in the presence of owners Alexandros Kouris and Maya Tsoklis who awarded the prizes. The participants renewed their appointment for the year, aiming at more duels and wishing better weather conditions but also the presence of the sponsor of the race, Beer NISOS which is produced on the picturesque island of TINOS and which is now included in the family of sponsors and supporters POIATH, since since 2021 it has been a supporter of the Aegean Rally and the AEGEAN 600, a collaboration that continues this year as well.
