As is done after the use of replay in the NBA, the referees will explain his decisions VAR to the fans, in a trial measure that will be implemented in his semi-final matches League Cup next week, as announced (30/12) by the English Football League (EFL).
As part of the test, the referees will use the pitch announcement system to announce the final decision after a visit to the pitch monitor VAR or after decisions to be made on matters such as goal scorer’s hand or offside.
“The new trial measure is part of PGMOL’s (Professional Game Match Officials Board) wider commitment to transparency and embraces technological developments for the benefit of Referees and match fans”the EFL said in a statement.
On-pitch VAR announcements have already been trialled at FIFA tournaments, including Women’s World Cup last year, as well as in Club World Cup of 2023.
VAR is only used in the League Cup in the semi-finals and the trials are for its matches Arsenal against her Newcastle United and her Tottenham against her Liverpool. The first matches will be held at its “Emirates Stadium”. Arsenal on January 7 and at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium the following day.
