Union Berlin announced Steffen Baumgart

OR Berlin Union announced (12/30) the Stephen Baumgart as the new coach, replacing from January 2 Bo Swenson who was fired. Baumgart was her player Union for two seasons, between 2002 and 2004, and even became team captain.

As a coach, he led her Paderborn from the third division to the Bundesliga in just two seasons. He has also sat on the bench of Cologne and Hamburg.

“We chose Stephen Baumgart because we are convinced that he is the type of coach that suits us. His way of managing teams, developing players and challenging them was an important aspect of our decision.”said sporting director Horst Held.

“He is a coach who does not need a long adjustment period and who can quickly give clear direction to the team. I look forward to working with him and I am convinced that together we will be successful”Held added.

THE Baumgartfor his part, stated that he really wanted to return to the Bundesliga and Union: “It’s definitely an advantage to know the club well and a lot of people here. “We don’t have much preparation time and we will work intensively with the players to be prepared for the tasks that await us”he assured.

OR Union is currently 12th in the Bundesliga. The team was promoted to the first division of German football in 2019 where it has remained ever since.
