Statements a few hours before the start of the second quarter-final of the Betsson Greek Cup between AEK and PAOK which will be held in Toumba (19:30), the president of the Union made, Marios Iliopoulos.
Speaking to ERT, the administrative leader of AEK, who has traveled to Thessaloniki as the head of the mission and was also present at the hotel where Matias Almeida and his players are, said that if his team plays as in the first game of the “OPAP Arena”, he cannot lose, while at the same time he called the punishment imposed on the Union by DEAB unfair.
In detail what the president of AEK said:
For the punishment of two matches by the DEAB: “This particular law is unfair because worse deviations are made in stadiums and there are no punishments. I believe that this law will soon be changed and we will request that this process be changed as soon as possible”.
On the specifics of the first match against PAOK and if he spoke with the players: “I will talk to the coach and the players now. Our assessment is that AEK when they show their strength on the field, even in Toumba, will bring a result that some will consider incredible. In the first game he had to win 3-0, I believe today he can win in Toumba”.
Regarding the absences of AEK in the derby with PAOK: “Vida is an absence, not only as a player but as a person. We are full, we will not be surprised in what we expect. The line-up is more or less known, the journalists before me know it. We will have a very good game. I wish the fans of PAOK to show the good fight and the players together with their team. We would like to thank the Ministry of Civil Protection for their great attention to the mission. The hospitality so far has been excellent”.
About where he will sit in the Toumba match: “I will prefer what the moral rules say and what will do the best for our team”.
For transfers: “I imagine you wouldn’t have been at the press conference I was at on June 22. We’re never going to hear from me because we want to fly under the radar. We will not state what we will do, how we will do it and with whom”.
On whether he would like to make a wish for football: “I want to say a wish for football. Football must change the page, we must enter a new process. I want to dedicate the new page to the new generation, because without fair competition, the climate that should and befits football does not move football forward. The road will be close. All together from all the teams, all the fans, let’s follow the honest and good fight to change the page in the new football”.
Regarding whether there was a discussion with PAOK management about the Toumba match: “The code says that the host takes the guest and tells him what he needs to tell him. We did not receive a phone call, there was no communication. Today may the best win, without side proceedings. I believe that the best today will be AEK. I believe that AEK will win, but let the best win, the one who will show his worth”.
