Greek football and Panathinaikos family sank into mourning, as Takis Economopoulos passed away at the age of 81.
The “bird” left Monday (10/02) left his last breath and the “green” PAE bid farewell to one of their top players and patrons “clover, through a charged announcement.

Panathinaikos’ family bid farewell to Takis Economopoulos today, who passed away at the age of 81.
Takis Economopoulos dedicated almost all his life to Panathinaikoshe loved the club as few as he wrote “golden” pages in clover history. With the green jersey he competed for 13 consecutive years, from 1963 to 1976, marking the leading years of our club. Was a key goalkeeper of clover in the Great Path to the final of Wembley in 1971while Panathinaikos celebrated 5 championships, 2 cups and 1 Super Cup. It belongs to the Top 10 of all time in participation, playing in 303 National League matches.
He returned to his beloved Panathinaikos when he hung his football shoes in 1979, when he took over as a goalkeeper coach. It was maintained for 27 years, until 2006! Under his guidance, leading Greek goalkeepers emerged as there was a great teacher.
Takis Economopoulos was not just a goalkeeper, he was the top Greek goalkeeperaccording to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) who chose him in the top 11 Greek footballers of all time.
