Deutsche Welle’s tribute to Massura: “The Separate George Massouras”

by

George Massouras is one of the Greek footballers who do not need many recommendations. On the contrary, he had gathered many looks long before he was transferred to Olympiacos and became a key executive of National Greece, as before scoring two goals against Dortmund – and thus became a slogan on the lips of Bochum’s fans and the first issue in the German sports press.

But they are not what makes George Massoura special. But the story of his life, who has managed by a child of the province to write history in Greece and not only – a fairy tale that worships every fan and few who have the chance to live.

From Kechrinia Aitoloakarnania to the “lounges” of the Super League

Massouras was born and raised in Kechrinia Aitoloakarnania, where he took his first football steps in local Omonia. Breeders and farmers Massouras went to school, playing football and at the same time helping his own in the fields in the fields so that the family could make a living for himself and his three sisters.

At 16 he left for Athens and, as soon as he finished school, began studying in pedagogy. At the same time he joined the Academies of Apollo Smyrna. Unofficial, of course, without a card, as he hesitated to tell his parents, who wanted to focus on his studies, that he continues to play football daily.

Destiny, however, is impossible: The young footballer’s abilities impressed the people of Elysian, who decided to acquire the 18 -year -old then extremist and were ultimately justified, as with Massura in the basic eleven the team secured the team.

In 2014 he makes another jump, signing in Panionios: In 4.5 years he records 150 appearances with 29 goals and in 2018 he deserves his first call to National Greece – and has since been a key executive. And so Massauras, a child from the province who moved to the capital to take life into his hands, is, before he became adult, in the “lounges” of the First National.

The transfer to Olympiacos and the fulfillment of a (still) dream

Deutsche Welle:

His regular dedication, passion and athleticism persuade Olympiacos to move on to his transfer. In this way, Massauras, who supported the reds as a child, fulfills yet another dream.

In Piraeus he writes a story: From 2019 to 2025 he completes 279 entries (9th in the club’s history) scoring 57 times and sharing 32 assists. During this time, the best Greek Super League player is highlighted in two seasons, win 3 championships and 1 cup and contributes the most to two of the team’s biggest European hits: the historical qualification against Arsenal in 2019/20 and of course to Conference the Conference League in 2024.

Bochum dancing sirtaki

A few days ago Olympiacos and Bochum gave their hands on Massura’s borrowing. And within just a few hours the Greek international has already managed to occupy a special place in the hearts of the “blue”.

In his second involvement with Bochum’s jersey in Bundesliga, Massauras scored two goals in two minutes against Borussia Dortmund, in the Ruhr’s mini-deck: the first pushing the ball into the net, after a shot by Philip. second by cleverly stealing the ball from Dortmund’s defense and “Executing” the opposing goalkeeper. But what was the most important for Massura? To apologize “a thousand times” by Hoffman for “stolen” the goal, as his teammate was told in an interview after the match.

Deutsche Welle:

With his magic appearance, Massauras was able to secure Bhhum his first victory for a month and “get rid of” the positions that lead to the direct relegation for the first time since September!

At the end of the match the whole stadium was dropped by him: The speakers of the Fonovia Rourtadion began to play “Zorba’s dance” and players and people literally set up parties in his honor.

This was, of course, the second time this song was heard on Bochum’s stadium – the first was 18 years ago, when the “blue” had danced for the sake of Fani Gekas: Then the great Greek goalkeeper had also scored two goals, against and against Again in Borussia Dortmund.

An example to imitate

At a time when the romanticism of the fans is being tested, many in the field are moving solely on money and that the social aspect of football news usually is usually unpleasant events, stories such as that of George Massouras are a source of inspiration. How a person can with patience, perseverance and work to fulfill his dreams, how football and sport can not only be a way out, but also make our lives beautify.

Because Massauras may not be the best Greek footballer in history or may not break one record after another – but where he plays, he is worshiped for his morality, hard work and passion by being an example to imitate. And that counts more than every goal and every expensive contract.
