According to the General Secretariat of Sport, the Federation of Greek Basketball Referees is illegal. The law requires the decision to set up a referee federation by at least five recognized referee links, which is not the case at this stage. In fact, under the athletic law, the recognized link with the most members assumes debt and that is the Achaia Referee Association of Ilias.
In particular, under Article 43A (1) of Law 2725/1999 applies:
1. For each team sport, only one federation of referees may be set up following a decision of the General Assembly. five (5) at least recognized referee links. This federation is the supreme body of the referees and is a union in accordance with the provisions of Articles 78 of the Civil Code.
The Federation of Greek Basketball Referees based on the GSC document dated 7/3/2025 to the Hellenic Basketball Federation confirms that there is no referees federation at this time. In fact, only recent documents for recognition of the Federation (13/2/2025) have just been submitted, as evidenced by a public document.
Thus, although an application has been filed for the recognition of the Federation, it is shown that there are no five recognized links currently but fewer based on the recent document of the GSC and the previous January 2025.
If the conditions for the establishment of a federation of referees are not fulfilled, then the link is the only link or, if there are more links that have the most members, which in this case is the referees of Achaia Ilia.
