About 40,000 passengers are affected by today’s strike – Tomorrow the planes are stuck at Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin airports,
The Ver.Di trade union declared earlier today without a warning strike by aircraft service workers at Hamburg Airport, causing all flights to cancel all flights to and from the Hansesa city.
About 40,000 passengers are affected by today’s strike, while many flights headed to Hamburg are being attempted to land either at Hanover or other airports in the wider northern Germany.
Initially, the strike for Hamburg Airport was scheduled for tomorrow as part of a strike at at least 11 airports, which concerns many sectors of workers, including pilots and security personnel.
“We are overwhelmed by how recklessly Ver.di is acting,” said a spokesman for Hamburg Katia Brom, noting that the situation is burdened by the fact that school holidays are starting in Hamburg.
“This mainly affects families with school children,” he added. On the part of trade unions, Ver.di announced that the mobilization is successful and stressed that “it was necessary to do this in order to be felt”.
Tomorrow mobilizations, including at Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin airports, are estimated to affect more than 510,000 passengers.
