The decision to withdraw his candidacy for the Brazilian Football Federation presidency made known Ronaldo.
The ‘phenomenon’ did not receive support from state federationsas he said 23 of the 27 refused to meet with him, arguing that they were satisfied with the current administration and supported her re-election.
To be a candidate for CBF president, Ronaldo would need the official support of four of the 26 Federations of State and the Federal District, and four clubs from Series A and B.
“After publicly declaring my desire to claim CBF president in the next election, I officially withdraw my intention. If the majority that has the power to make decisions understands that Brazilian football is in good hands, my opinion is of little importance. As I have already said, my first steps would be in the direction to give voice and space to the clubs, as well as to hear the federations in favor of improving matches and the development of the sport in their states. The necessary change will come from this strategic alignment, with the power of the common vision. However, in my first contact with 27, I found 23 closed doors. The federations refused to accept me in their homes, arguing that they were satisfied with the current administration and supported the re -election. I couldn’t present my work, share my ideas and listen to them as I would like. There was no opening for dialogue. The statutes give federations the most important vote and therefore it is clear that there is no way of competition. Most support the active president, it is their right and I respect it, regardless of my beliefs. Thanks to all those who have shown interest in my initiative and I continue to believe that the road to the development of Brazilian football is above all dialogue, transparency and unity“, Ronaldo wrote.
Last month, Ronaldo published an open letter asking FIFA to oversee the presidential election and to secure justice in the process. With Ronaldo’s departure, Ednaldo Rodriguez, current president of the Federation, has a clear way to re -election. He has a deadline one year to schedule the election, from the end of this month until March 22 of the following year, when his term expires.
