As a sports competition, the soccer match between São Paulo and Flamengo, at Morumbi, this Sunday (14) in the afternoon, lasted a short time.

After 4 minutes from the start, the red-black carioca was already winning 2-0. At 10 minutes, Calleri was sent off for a sole in David Luiz’s shin. There was no way back for Rogério Ceni’s team, defeated 4-0 by the Campeonato Brasileiro.

It was not what the nearly 48,000 fans, São Paulo’s largest post-pandemic audience, expected to see on the field. With the exception of the three thousand visitors, happy in life.

Considering that, in the first round, at Maracanã, Flamengo had won 5-1, the aggregate of the two clashes between the two teams in this year’s tournament was 9-1.

The victory boosted the morale of coach Renato Gaúcho and the Flamengo fans, who tied 2-2 with the Chapecoense lantern and later saw their 3-0 victory over Bahia challenged by refereeing error. It reached 60 points and is eight behind the leader Atlético-MG. More importantly, it gained momentum for the Libertadores final, to be played on the 27th, in Montevideo, against Palmeiras.

São Paulo plunged once and for all into the fight against relegation. With 38 points, they are 15th, five ahead of Juventude, the first team in the sticking zone. But the gauchos have two games in hand. Next Wednesday (17), the Morumbi club will have a derby against Palmeiras, at Allianz Parque.

Defensively, São Paulo was a disaster from the start. At 23 seconds, he took the first goal when Liziero lost a ball close to his own area and saw Andreas Pereira and Bruno Henrique exchange passes before Gabigol scored. Shortly thereafter, Michael began to appear.

He crossed low for Bruno Henrique to complete the net at four minutes. At 41, he scored a great goal in a kick from the edge of the area. More than that, he tortured Diego Carlos in marking. Every time he started with the ball dominated, he took advantage. He even irritated the São Paulo team when he mastered the throw with a jump and hit the ball with the heel.

He reached 12 goals, equaling Hulk (Atlético-MG) and Gilberto (Bahia) in the lead of the Brazilian scorers table. He would be isolated at the end and would score his 13th when completing the crossing at 10 of the final stage.

The fans of São Paulo, who tried to support even in the difficulties, began to get impatient with the constant passing errors of the team. Diego Carlos and Reinaldo, two of the most tortured by Michael’s moves, were booed a lot when they were replaced.

Flamengo was one goal away from being responsible for the biggest rout ever suffered by São Paulo in the history of Morumbi. The brand belongs to Internacional, which scored 5-1 in January this year, but the clash was valid for the 2020 Brazilian.

The reason, in part, for the rout, was because Rogério Ceni did not accept the defeat in the first half. With the score still 2-0, but with one less on the field, the hosts tried to attack and changed little. Rigoni even had a great chance to score and get São Paulo back in the game. But he just couldn’t master the ball when he was alone and facing the goal.

The fans’ irritation was such that, during the second half, goalkeeper Tiago Volpi was cursed a lot, even though he didn’t miss any of the opponent’s goals. The flamenguists shouted the name of Renato Gaúcho, questioned in recent weeks.

Next Wednesday, the rubro-negro receives Corinthians, at Maracanã.
