The Star Sailors League, whose administration consists of Olympians with two and three gold medals each, has decided to become its 65th member and participate in the top sailing races that are equivalent to a football World Cup! That’s why the Star Sailors League campaign is mentioned in a World Cup in Sailing!
The announcement of the Star Sailors League decision in the sailing federation has been in Geneva to Emilio Papathanasiou, which was entrusted with the responsibility for the establishment of the boat that will represent our country in the final November-December 2026.
These are 47 -foot vessels “One Design” that used to run in the famous “American Cup” and their crew consists of 8 to 11 sailors depending on their specific weight.
Papathanasiou, therefore, is responsible for the Greek crew, and the first reports say he has already approached Olympians Tassos Boudouris and Dimitris Deligiannis, Stefanos Chandakas and Elena Dimitrakopoulou (Vice President and Secretary -General) Stelios Nutso.
The other members of the Greek crew will be selected by Emilio Papathanasiou from the world ranking list of all categories of boats available to the Star Sailors League.
Thus, once the crew of the Greek boat is staffed, training and participation in races will begin to be ready for the finals that will be one of the most important sporting events of 2026 around the world.
