The 37 -year -old George Menis was the big winner in 19th Marathon “Alexander the Great”. The athlete of Paleo Faliro passed the distance of 42.195 meters from Pella to the statue of Alexander the Great on the beach of Thessaloniki in 2 hours 24 minutes and 20 seconds.
In second place was George Kalapodis (2:26:24), athlete of Aigio Athinodoros and in the third by George Minos (2:26:36) of Olympiacos. It was noteworthy that the three runners stood out and drove the race from the beginning, running next to each other for more than half of the route.
In women, first ended the Denis Dimaki with a performance of 2:51:21.
More than ten thousand were total health and dynamic walking and 5,000 -meter -long walking (starting at the Ambelokipi Municipal Stadium and the Thessaloniki City Hall, respectively), while 1,000 students of elementary schools ran a distance of one kilometer.
End on the parallel roads, as in the Marathon, was the statue of Alexander the Great on the beach of Thessaloniki. A total of about 15,000 were runners from 68 countries that participated in the event and 1,250 volunteers who helped carry out it.
The Alexander the Great Marathon is a regular member of the AIMS World Marathon Federation and is being held in accordance with the regulations of the World Classical Sports Federation, World Athletics on racing routes bearing its official certification.
