Opinion – Sandro Macedo: Itaú needs to send a pix to Abel

by

In addition to being a great coach, Professor Abel Ferreira likes numbers and statistics, and not just those that involve the game. This Wednesday, after Palmeiras’ victory against Ituano, he said that the team played at 100%, but the stadium was only 70% full. He thought the deficit was unfair and called the crowd to tie this equation.

But who closed the account in the blue was another financial institution —in addition to Crefisa—, Itaú. When considering Itu’s rival, the Portuguese professor called the team Itaú, drawing laughter from those present at the post-game press conference. “The best attack was this one from Itaú… from Ituano, sorry, I have an account at Itaú”, said Abel.

Ituano was eliminated with the defeat. But Itaú continues to win with the game. On his official Twitter profile, he changed the name to “Ituan, ops Itaú”.

Afterwards, the financial institution continued joking in the responses to a post: “Cold head, hot pix”, the bank tweeted, making fun of the title of Abel’s newly released book (“Cold Head, Hot Heart”). In another tweet, when an internet user said that they gained one more follower, he replied “we are all one”, again referring to the Palmeirense commander — either the person responsible for Itaú’s social networks often follows football or is from Palmeira… or both.

In times of SAF, with several companies having a big eye on poorly managed clubs in Brazil, why doesn’t Itaú enter the game? And how about buying the Ituano itself, which already comes from the city with bursts of grandeur? It shouldn’t be much more expensive than the Cruzeiro… In fact, with each passing day, you discover that little is more expensive than the Cruzeiro. If it takes a little longer, Cruzeiro will probably end up paying Ronaldo, aka Nazário, to manage it.

The only person who must not have been soooo happy with the popularity of Itaú as a joke was Sicredi. Here’s a curious fact: did you know —if you don’t work at Meio & Mensagem— that the São Paulo tournament sold its name to the financial institution? Well, the official name of the championship, used by absolutely no one, is Paulistão Sicredi.
