The final of the London and Southeast England Cup in women’s football canceled on Sunday, as the stadium administration is allegedly reacted to the presence of Palestinian flags on the platforms.
Clapton’s women’s group preceded 2-0 By Dalwich in the final of London and South East Regional Women’s Football League Trophy, held at Meintstone United’s Gallagher Stadium when the race was interrupted.
According to Clapton’s announcement, a spokesman for Gallagher Stadium approached her fans, about 20 minutes after the start of the match and demanded to stop waving Palestinian flag. He also expressed objection to the banner of Dalwich fans who wrote: “Red card in genocide”
The two clubs were offered the opportunity to continue the match behind closed doors, but Clapton refused. Instead, as the team mentions, the fans of both sides were united “In solidarity with the Palestinian people, singing and holding banners in favor of transnational women and Palestinian people”
In a statement by the group, Clapton said:
“Today, 32 women were deprived of the opportunity to compete in the L & Serwfl Trophy final.
About 20 minutes after the start of the match, a spokeswoman for Meidtone United demanded that our fans stop waving the Palestinian flag and Dalwich’s fans to download the banner that reads ” red card in the genocide ”.
When both sides refused, the spokesman called the referees and announced that we could not continue to use the stadium while the flag and the banner remain.
The choices given to us were: 1) Continue the race without spectators or 2) to be abandoned. Our players chose to give up the match.
The fans of both teams were united in solidarity with the Palestinian peoplesinging and holding our banners in favor of transnational women and Palestinian people”
Clapton added that the organizing authority, L & Serwfl, declared the final invalid, and both teams may face disciplinary procedures from the Football Federation.
