In 2 years in prison, with a 3 -year suspension, a private hospital physician was sentenced to death by a 17 -year -old patient in December 2019 in Thessaloniki.

He was found guilty by the Thessaloniki Criminal Court for homicide by negligence, with a deepening recognition, and by the same decision he was acquitted by his colleague by the same hospital, specializing in orthopedic.

The indictment attributed criminal responsibilities to doctors, and in particular that they did not diagnose the patient with staphylococcal toxic shock syndrome, resulting in valuable time to plan proper treatment and treatment of infection. As a result, according to the case file, his death in a public hospital where he was decorated.

The young man, who was a footballer, had been admitted to the private hospital with a clinical picture of algae, inability to walk, fever with chill, vomiting – diarrhea, sophisticated episode, as stated in the indictment. Doctors are accused of not performing any imaging (x -ray, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging), no repetitive testing to monitor laboratory findings, and despite strong symptomatology made no differential diagnosis.

In his apology, the physician denied the accusation, stressing, among other things, that he had explicitly recommended the patient’s admission to the private hospital clinic, but met the denial of his mother and was given by the clinical form of refusal to declare treatment.
