Historical is today’s day for Greek football, as it takes 21 years since the conquest of Euro 2004 by National Greece to Portugal.
On the occasion of this anniversary, the current President of the Federation, Makis Gagatsissent his own message, by statement on the EPO website and stresses that ‘Euro 2004 will be an eternal lighthouse of inspiration and guide to future generations of Greek football”
“Twenty -one years from the biggest football moment in the history of our country, it is impossible not to feel awe, pride and emotion. July 4, 2004 is a date-station for Greek football, for Greek sports, for modern Greek history itself.
Conquering the European Championship by the National Team was not just a racing success. It was a triumph that inspired and moved millions of Greeks in every corner of the earth. It was the proof that when there was a plan, faith, discipline and unity, then even the impossible can be possible.
Everyone who contributed to this athletic epic and taught us what collectivity and dedication means our unlimited gratitude.
The EPO, with complete respect for this heavy heritage, continues to support the national team with all its might. Today, with a widespread acceptance coach, Ivan Jovanovic, and players who combine the excitement of young people and the experience of the old ones, Ethniki is going through a new phase of dynamic return to success.
