Last weekend was held with great success the Balkan Championship At the Panthessal Stadium of Volos, with Greece hosting the event for the first time after 17 years.
The “present” in this great celebration gave a total of 22 countries, with one of them being the Israel. The involvement of this country, due to the war situation with Gaza, created reactions and negative comments to SEGAS, with many accusing Mrs Sofia Sakorafa of being honored.
In a statement, the president of SEGAS clarified the issue, stressing, among other things, that Israel was not honored in the Balkan Games, but is a member of it. Balkan Athletics Federation since 2015.
The announcement in detail:
“On the occasion of the noise created on social media – non -being – SEGAS President Sofia Sakorafa made the following statement:
I am starting with an introduction in fact: for reasons independent of the position, will and influence of each of us, Israel has been a member of the European Athletics since 1990 and has been involved in the pan -European races since then. He is also a member of the Balkan Athletics since 2015 and has been participating in the Balkan Games since then, which has been organizing and inviting the participants, regardless of the hospitality or the federation of the races.
Writing that Sakorafa, herself, allegedly (with history and her world -famous ties to Palestine) called – and even “honorable” – Israel in the Balkan Games in Volos is an unfounded construction, an invention of unlikely malignancy. To make such posts whether they are small or so passionate that it does not matter to look small.
Alas, if there are such a supposed political consciences, which are made up of fragments of “personal repelled”. They are deceived by themselves and obviously completely unacceptable. They are even worthy of attention, let alone dialogue or confrontation. However, our condolences deserve.
