Apostolos Tsitsipas: “I didn’t like Ivanisevic publicly expressed – Stefanos will compete in the Athens ATP”!

by

THE Apostle Tsitsipasfather and coach of Stefanou Tsitsipagave a honest and revealing interview from New York on the sidelines US OPEN. Speaking to Clay magazine, he referred to a series of issues related to both his son’s career and recent developments in his team.

Among other things, he commented on the statements by Goran Ivanisevic from Wimbledonwhich concerned the physical condition of Stefanos. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that these views were publicly expressed, instead of being discussed internally, within the group.

At the same time, he revealed that Stefanos intends to participate in the ATP 250 tournament to be held in Athens in November. As he pointed out, the intention is clear, and, as long as everything goes smoothly, the presence of the Greek champion will be a reference point for Greek tennis.

In detail what he said:

For the “new chapter” he opened with his return and what new he brings to Stefanos’ team: “This is not exactly a new chapter, it is more a continuation of a little more wisdom, as Stefanos said. We people learn from our mistakes, and if this is called wisdom, then yes, we use it to improve things, make them better and easier. Stefanos is someone who thinks outside the ordinary, not only in tennis but also in photography and other areas. ”

About what he did while he was away from Tim: “I was fine” (smile). I had a lot of work with other Greek players, including young people. I also have my own kids and try to support them. We have developed racing programs, including ATP challengers in Greece. We have already organized enough to create an environment that helps Greek tennis and gives young players opportunities to evolve. ”

For the ATP 250 in Athens after 31 years: “It’s great! We thank Novak for decided to bring the tournament to Greece, and we agreed to host it. This collaboration will be very interesting and good for Greek tennis. It’s something new in the calendar. ”

If Stefanos will participate in this: “Yes. The intention is to play. We hope to be good, healthy. It will be nice. It will definitely be a great celebration. ”

For what points are they currently working on: “This is a secret” (laughs). Now we are in the race. I’m just trying to play good tennis. The most important thing is to be healthy and play good tennis. Stefanos has very dynamic and qualifications, both as a player and as a human being. I want to express them on the court. Maybe we see the old good Stefano combined with the evolution of a more mature player. ”

For Ivanisvic’s infamous statements: “I didn’t participate much then. Goran probably saw something he didn’t like. He had to identify it at the beginning of their professional relationship with Stefanos and personally discuss it with him and his team. I didn’t like to publicly express his views. It is interesting for the public to know all this, but the most important thing for the world is to see Stefanos playing good tennis. And those responsible for this are the members of his team. We are teachers. Coaches need to create the right environment for the player to evolve. ”

On how he judges the physical state of Stefanos: “It’s good. I’m sure it can always be improved, but you can’t count these things exactly. The players have peaks and then fall a little. They are not always stable. I think now is on top of it. It can fight, it must be ready because it is Grand Slam. We did what we could. Of course, you can always add things, but tennis is not only physical, it is spiritual. “
