From absolute 10/10 to chaos: 40 years later United sinks into introversion

Like today, 40 years agoManchester United wrote history.

With Ron Atkinson on the bench and Brian Robson leading the grass, the “Red Devils” recorded the absolute 10/10 wins at the start of the 1985-86 seasonclimbing to the top of the standings and leaving Liverpool at -9.

The team was then passionate, confident and dynamic, building a series that remained in the history of English football.

Four decades later, the picture could not be more different. Yesterday, at “GTECH Community Stadium”, United presented a picture again decomposition and lack of cohesionknowing heavy defeat by score 3-1 by Brdford. Despite the week of rest and preparation, Ruben Amorim’s team had neither plan nor freshness, nor – anymore – the luck that could save it.

Keith Andrew’s “Bees” took advantage of every weakness of the guests, leveling them and sinking even more at United at introversion and reflection. At the edge of the bench, Amorim did not hide his frustration; he lowered his gaze, remained silent and seemed helpless to react. A picture that spoke louder than any word.
