Liverpool: Slott disappointed after defeat by United

by

Liverpool are in crisis and Arne Slott did not hide his disappointment after losing 2-1 at home to Manchester United in the big derby of the 8th game of the Premier League.

The Merseyside side completed four successive defeats in all competitions — the first time in 11 years.

Liverpool’s Dutch coach reflected on his side’s missed chances and the early goal that hampered the comeback attempt: “If you play Manchester United, who come here with a low block and play a lot of long balls, you know it’s going to be difficult. It’s not easy to get past their defenders and you don’t have the chance to win the ball high, we also conceded the goal after a minute or two, that makes it more difficult».

He added: “If someone had told me before the game that we could play against the low block with the quality players that Manchester United have, against a team that plays so many long balls, that we could create so many chances? I would say: I would accept it immediately. And usually that doesn’t lead to losing football matches. But we lost, because we missed many opportunities. The chances we missed led to two Manchester United goals. It was again a set piece that hurt us and that’s partly why we lost this game, but we didn’t deserve this defeat».
