The “4 out of 4” in this year’s Stoiximan GBL was done at noon on Sunday (26/10) by Olympicwho thanks to his terrible third quarter, passed with impressive 91-65 from Klisto of Ano Merain a historic match for Mykonos.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr George Bartzokas praised the team of Vangelis Ziagos, while he jokingly stated that his players were in holiday mood in the first half on the ‘Island of the Winds’!
In detail what he said:
“First of all, let’s say many congratulations to Mykonos for organizing the match, with everything that entails: with the stadium and its development, with the hospitality they provide to the guests, but also with their competitive profile. They are a very combative team, with guards who control the game, very aggressive on defense.
When we, in the first half, decided that we shouldn’t get too tired and didn’t do what makes us a good team, we had difficulties. Obviously, in the third quarter we went back to our basics, passing the ball a lot, creating open shots, playing better defense, that’s when we won the game.
I repeat with regard to Mykonos, when you see the Americans dive in transition to finish a basket, that is very encouraging for a team. It shows that they really care, they care about the team and they also care about following their coach’s plan.”
For the pressed schedule: “It’s a routine that the team has. I think coming from 7 points in Munich to 25 here puts you in a holiday mood, and it showed in the first half.
But it’s our job. We should be happy to do it. I personally was glad that, two hours from Munich, by direct flight, we were here. Of course, we have two matches next week in the Euroleague. Our program is this. If we complain, it will get harder.
I am happy that we are competing at this level, we believe in our team. There are 3-4 players who didn’t play today, but they will be in the Wednesday roster, so I hope we can show up fresh and ready mentally for the matches ahead of us.”
