After his defeat Panathinaikou AKTOR from Monaco, Christos Serelis addressed the team’s defensive gaps and wrong attacking options. The Greek coach emphasized that the team did not enter the match focused, they conceded easy points and he failed to manage the absence of a classic center. Despite the effort in the first half, Monaco imposed their pace in the second half, with Panathinaikos finding no reaction.
What he told the “PlayMakers” in detail:
“We didn’t get into the game well from the start. We were behind in the score, we ate easy points. Yurtseven was charged with quick fouls, he may not have been out of the match but in essence it was a loss that we had to manage for quite some time, without having a classic five besides Mitoglou. We had bad choices in attack. Monaco didn’t play individual basketball, they were good enough, they distributed the ball. Everyone scored. The unfortunate thing is that nobody hurt us much, but we didn’t stop anybody either. There was no duration in our good times.
Our defense was not what it should have been in an away match. We didn’t protect the racket well, in many close-out attacks they scored easily and when Monaco turned the ball over we weren’t good and that created a problem for us defensively. Even though we weren’t good in the first half, the 8 point difference was good because we conceded 50 points. But unfortunately we went on a big run in the second half, it went to 21 points and it was hard to come back».
