Corinhtians visit Flamengo with an eye on the G4 of the Brazilian Nationals

The home games left Corinthians close to the G4 of the Brazilian Championship. But to enter the list of teams that qualify directly for the group stage of the next Copa Libertadores, the team needs a good away result.

Alvinegro takes the 4th position if they defeat Flamengo this Wednesday (17th), at 9:30 pm, at Maracanã. It would reach 53 points and overtake Red Bull Bragantino, who lost to Grêmio this Tuesday (16).

The clash will be broadcast by Globo and Premiere.

On September 25, Corinthians defeated Palmeiras 2-1 at the Neo Química Arena. After that, he amended triumphs against Bahia, Fluminense, Chapecoense, Fortaleza and Cuiabá, always as principal. Sometimes playing well, others suffering and needing goals in stoppage time. But alvinegro has always found a way to win.

In the same period, however, the team did not win as a visitor. There were draws with Bragantino and Internacional and defeats against Sport, São Paulo and Atlético-MG. The last positive result away from home was against Grêmio, on August 28th.

This Wednesday’s game will take place 10 days before the Libertadores final. Faced with the difficulty in reaching the Brazilian trio, Flamengo has the continental decision as a priority. The red-black carioca enters the field in the second position of Nacional, but 11 points behind the leader Atlético-MG. If he wins, it reduces the distance to eight, but with six rounds left in the competition.

After having fluctuated in recent weeks, Flamengo recovered with a 4-0 rout against São Paulo, at Morumbi, last Sunday (14).

“I was happy not only for the goals, but for the opportunities we created, for the delivery. We did very well in the technical and tactical part”, praised coach Renato Gaúcho, who had been questioned about the team’s performance.

Questions that Sylvinho is still going through, despite having made the team grow in the table. Guaranteed by president Duilio Monteiro Alves in 2022, the coach has already had the exit requested by Gaviões da Fiel, the main organized supporters of the club.

Corinthians has not beaten Flamengo for eight matches. The last triumph came in the 2018 Brazil Cup. The coach at the time was Jair Ventura. Since then, the Paulistas have tied once and lost seven.

Sylvinho will be able to count on the return of Fabio Santos on the left flank. The player did not face Cuiabá for being suspended.
