National: With three “eternal” players and two new faces in the windows

by

Sixteen players were called to Men’s National in view of the games with Great Britain (25/11, Newcastle) and Belarus (28/11, Thessaloniki) for his qualifiers 2023 World Cup.

Among them are three players of the “eternals”, the Vassilis Kavvadas and Leonidas Kaselakis of Panathinaikos and Michalis Lountzis of Olympiacos, although the former is expected to be available only for the match at Nick Galis Hall due to Euroleague obligations. New faces on the list are Kostis Gondikas of Ionikos Nikaia and Panagiotis Kalaitzakis of Lietkabelis.

It is the first time in “windows” that take place during the season (and not September or June), that the National takes players from “eternals” after four years. The previous one was in November 2017, when Panathinaikos had sent to Heraklion for the match with Israel (also for the 2019 World Cup qualifiers) Nick Kalathis, Thanasis Antetokounbo and Ian Vougiouka.

It is worth noting that the Sotiris Manolopoulos, a new federal coach, was diagnosed with coronavirus and so he is not expected to be on the bench of the Greek team next Thursday and his first assistant will probably perform the duties of first coach, Savvas Kamberidis.
